Don'ts | As everywhere else in Southeast Asia, one takes off one's shoes as well before entering a temple as entering a house or even sometimes a shop. As Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, it is important to have a proper dress and especially when visiting places of worship (covered shoulders, as well as legs to the knees). We must refrain from touching the head of an individual, even that of children! This can be considered rude. Emotional demonstrations are rare in public. One must abstain from using one's left hand in dealing with others and with food. This one is considered impure.
Local food | Indonesian cuisine is a reflection of languages, cultures and ethnicities, that is to say very rich and varied. Like many countries of Southeast Asia, it has benefited from the many contributions of Indian, Chinese, Arab and European migrations. The dishes are generally composed of rice, meat or fish and many fruits and vegetables. Some Idonesian regions use a lot of pepper in their preparations.
