A brief history The first Western visitor was Marco Polo. From 1754 the Andaman and Nicobar islands are part of India Danish, and this until 1789, when the British are buying up to the Danish crown to become the largest political prison in the world which turned out to unparalleled cruelty. During the second world war, occupation is Japanese. At the end of the war, the islands have once again been British until 1947 when they became Indian territory.

Don'ts As in many Southeast Asian countries, people have to take off their shoes before to enter into houses, temples, and sometimes stores. Proper dressing - covered shoulders and legs to the knees, is required in places of worship. Avoid physical contact when greeting someone: go for the traditional Indian form of greeting which is to join hands in front of the chest. Avoid using the left hand that Indians consider impure (when dining and when you hand something to someone).
Local food The Andaman and Nicobar islands cuisines do not vary from that found on the Indian subcontinent. Quite spicy cuisine, prepared with pork, chicken or fish with rice and vegetables.
